The Thermit reaction

The thermit reaction is the reaction between Iron oxide and Aluminium. A magnesium fuse is used to initiate the exothermic reaction. The aluminium is more reactive than the iron and displaces the iron to produce iron and Aluminium oxide. The heat of the reaction is sufficient of melt the iron.
